ConAgra Foods has agreed to pay a hefty settlement after being accused of distributing bacteria-laden peanut butter.

After the company was accused of shipping salmonella-tainted Peter Pan peanut butter from its Georgia plant, it will pay more than $11 million in criminal fines and forfeitures.

In 2007, a salmonella outbreak linked to the Sylvester plant was blamed for sickening at least 625 people in 47 states.

ConAgra agreed to plead guilty to a single charge of shipping adulterated food.
