After visits to Opelika, Warm Springs and Columbus, WRBL's 60th Anniversary 'Our Town' tour will make a stop in LaGrange on Wednesday, June 26.
The station will broadcast it 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. EDT newscasts live from LaFayette Square in the heart of the city's downtown.
“LaGrange has a great story to tell,” said WRBL Vice-President and General Manager David Hart. “It is a community that is steeped in history, but one that also has maintained a keen eye on its future through the years. I was extremely impressed with the visionary leadership I encountered when I met with Mayor Jeff Lukken and Page Estes, the President of the LaGrange Troup County Chamber of Commerce. They are excited to have us and we're looking forward to making their town – Our Town”
News 3's Teresa Whitaker and Phil Scoggins will anchor both newscasts and will be joined by Chief Meteorologist Bob Jeswald and Sports Director Jonathan Huskey for the newscasts.
The newscasts will feature reports on LaGrange's history, its economic successes, the growth of both its medical community and educational opportunities.
The city of LaGrange is one of only a handful of cities in the country that does not charge property tax on corporations or individuals, instead generating millions of dollars in revenue through multiple initiatives that generate large profits for the city.
In addition to the news reports, the broadcasts will also feature live interviews with local leaders as well as live performances by community musicians and singers.
“We are really looking forward to our visit to LaGrange,” said Hart. “All of the communities we have visited as part of the ‘Our Town' tour have been so hospitable and we're looking forward to adding LaGrange to that list, making new friends and thanking our viewers there for 60 years of supporting WRBL.”
